In 2007, Waagner-Biro obtained its first contract for the supply of emergency bridges (Bailey-type bridges) in Thailand in an international tender. By the end of that year, two panel bridges, each 30 metres long and 3.15 metres wide, had already been supplied to the client. In subsequent years, Waagner-Biro followed up its success by winning further tenders, providing a 24-metre panel bridge in mid-2009 and a 33-metre panel bridge a year later.
Since 2012, Waagner-Biro has handled large panel bridge projects in Thailand on a yearly basis. In 2019, the largest order so far was successfully completed. It called for the supply of a number of steel structures in various lengths and widths, as well as for installation tools and launching equipment. One special requirement was the delivery of additional elements that make it possible to extend the length of any one of the bridges supplied. To date, approximately 1700 metres of panel bridge parts have been delivered to Thailand, an additional 551m of ramps and 607m of launching noses.
All bridges delivered to Thailand serve as temporary or replacement bridges in disaster areas. The end customers are the Ministry of Interior and/or the Ministry of Public Works. After each delivery, a practical training for the assembly of the bridge was carried out.
