Description:
In 2020 Waagner-Biro delivered a ferry boat landing bridge (Bailey-type, panel-type passenger boarding bridge) for the new Golfito Municipal Wharf in the province of Puntarenas in Costa Rica. The hot-dip galvanized bridge has a nominal length of 24.384m and a standard width of 3.15m. The steel deck is furnished with an anti-slip coating consisting of epoxy resins, polyurethane and mineral aggregates. The bridge complies with a live load design of HS20-44+25%.
After the high degree of deterioration of the slabs, piles and steel components of the old wharf, it was decided to rebuild it. Waagner-Biro delivered the bridge connecting the wharf/dock with the mainland. The new wharf and bridge – forming part of a maritime port facility important for both commerce and local transport – provides a safe and accessible ferry service to the local people.
The scope of the supplies called for the delivery of a 30.48 m temporary panel bridge. However, the bridge installed at the Golfito Municipal Wharf has only a span of 24.384m, providing the possibility of de-installing the bridge at a later time and rebuilding it with a span of 30.48m at another location. The bridge of Golfito was preassembled and then lifted in by crane. Waagner-Biro also delivered spare parts for a value of 5% of the total cost of the bridge for later installations.
