Panel bridge for bulk material loading IJmuiden
Facts and Figures:
Place/Country: IJmuiden/Netherlands
Completion: 2017
Project type: Panel Bridge
Client: Dutch construction company
Description:
At the beginning of 2014, following a short-term order, Waagner-Biro delivered a temporary construction bridge – designed as a single-storey panel bridge (Bailey type bridge) – to a Dutch construction company. The bridge had a span of 37 metres and a single-lane roadway. The Waagner-Biro panel bridge is a modular, flexible bridge system that can be directly adapted by the customer to fit a wide variety of engineering, industrial and infrastructural applications.
In 2017, the construction company ordered additional parts to convert the existing bridge into one that can be used for loading bulk solid materials into ships. Materials are trucked to the rear end of the bridge, which cantilevers 10 metres over the ship, and dumped into the hatch where it is discharged into the ship’s hold. The ship-loading bridge is designed as a flexible construction as the central pier rests on a floating barge. Its fixed end, located on shore, is equipped with counterweight boxes to prevent the structure from tipping over.
