Modular Bridges for Laos

Facts and Figures:

Place/Country: various places/Laos
Completion: 2013 - 2016
Project type: Modular Bridges
Client: Ministry of Public Works and Transport Laos

Description:

In 2013, Waagner-Biro supplied its first modular steel bridge to the Republic of Laos. The bridge is currently being installed across the Nam Ou River (Pakpok Village, Samphanh District), with a length of 185m. It is one of a series of robust bridges which have been delivered to Laos since then. Two additional bridges will be built across the Sedone River (210m) and the Mekong River (455m). The truss bridges are designed as multi-span continuous structures for double-lane vehicular traffic and are successively installed under the supervision of Waagner-Biro’s bridge experts.

All of the bridges are part of a long-term project of improving local quality standards of living and infrastructure. Heavy rainfall during the rainy season frequently disrupts vital road links over rivers in Laos. The modular bridges designed by Waagner-Biro are a substantial contribution to re-establishing these links and supporting economic growth, for the benefit of many local villagers.
