Description:
Indonesia is one of Waagner-Biro’s main markets for modular bridges. In 1987, Waagner-Biro received from the Indonesian road and bridge office "Bina Marga" its first order for 91 single-lane road bridges with a single span of 30m. This was the first contract completed using Waagner-Biro's modular bridge system. It was the beginning of a long-standing cooperation. Today, the company provides around 100 bridges of this type annually for the development of infrastructure. More than 1,500 bridges (for a total of more than 60 km) are now distributed over almost all the major islands of Indonesia. With its expertise, the company is now the second largest supplier of system bridges the world. In the last few years, Waagner-Biro has also delivered a number of long-span steel structures with individual spans of up to 100 metres or more.
In Indonesia, the task is usually to provide the most practical bridge construction possible that can be installed by workers on site. The bridges should also be virtually maintenance-free and deliverable within a very short time, which is why Waagner-Biro has a local production plant.
Sometimes, projects have to be completed urgently, especially when infrastructure is seriously disrupted or even destroyed by natural disasters like floods or tropical storms. In such cases, Waagner-Biro’s modular bridges are brought into service to restore the infrastructure.
